God Of Wonder

Tony Bucz

I was recently sitting outside taking a break and staring mindlessly in front of me. It was one of those strange warm days in the middle of December and as I was enjoying the sun shining down something caught my eye.  Between the stalk of a long dead avocado sapling and the handle of a mop bucket there was a tiny spider working furiously at spinning a web.

What caught my attention was the speed and precision the little guy was working at.  I became fascinated with how fast it moved from strand to strand and the intricacy of the design. It reminded me of watching a video playing at 3 times the normal speed.

But what inspired this writing was my realization that God, when He was planning out the universe, would create a creature with the skill to manufacture something so artistically beautiful and yet so practical and necessary in a package so small. The spider itself wasn’t much bigger than a grain of sand, and when I tried to take a picture of it, even at 4X magnification I couldn’t see the little guy. And of course, his brain was even smaller than that.

Which brings me to the lesson learned:  the Bible is true in all it says. Specifically Romans 1:20 says

For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

A person would have to work hard to intentionally disregard nature as an excuse to disbelieve God. They would have to willfully ignore the things that God has done to support their unbelief.  And as strange as that may seem, the Bible also says that will happen.

1 Peter 3:5   For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

It’s hard to believe that God can install enough intelligence in a microscopic brain of a tiny spider to make an intricate web designed to provide food for himself, and yet there are those with the capacity for much greater intelligence who arrogantly refuse to acknowledge God’s wisdom and instead create for themselves gods that are more suited to their selfish desires.

Do the recent events around the world trouble you? Do you want to have hope and joy in these troubling times? It’s surprisingly easy to do: Simply read and believe God’s Word and his promises to us who believe and it will be yours. Allow God to speak to you through His Word.  The Bible is trustworthy and the only guidance we can be assured is written solely for our benefit by the only One who knows what is best for us.

As you read, the proof of this will become clear when you look around you. Pay attention to the things God has created. The sun, the moon and the stars provide a testimony.  Even a tiny little spider can give testimony of God’s wisdom and love. Creation itself is proof of that love. As it is written:

Psalms 19:1 “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.”

He truly is a God of wonders.
